I am a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at the Cardiff Transplant Unit, specialising in kidney and pancreas transplantation, organ retrieval, organ utilisation, and perioperative outcomes.

My work sits at the intersection of surgery, data, and policy. I lead initiatives to improve access to transplantation and optimise post-transplant care, collaborating with national programmes on organ utilisation policy and contributing to multicentre clinical studies.

Research Interests

Kidney and pancreas transplantation outcomes Organ preservation and machine perfusion Donor risk stratification and organ utilisation Vascular access for haemodialysis Data science applied to transplant decision-making

Current Work

I helped establish and now lead the Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) programme at Cardiff — improving organ quality assessment and expanding the use of DCD donor organs for transplantation.

I apply R and data science methods to clinical transplant questions, from survival modelling and risk prediction to making better use of national organ offering data. I am also deeply enthusiastic about AI and its potential in medicine, and use Claude extensively in my research and analytical workflows.
